Microneedling

Needling Your Way to Younger Skin

Do you want to diminish wrinkles, improve the look of scars, get rid of stretch marks, or encourage hair growth? Believe it or not, there’s one treatment that can do it all! Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that can be used from head to toe to heal your skin and help you look younger. And the best part? There’s no surgery involved! So, you won’t have to spend several weeks recovering. The procedure is quick, cost-effective, and the results are fast.

What Exactly is the Microneedling Treatment?

Having your skin poked over and over again by tiny little needles may sound a little intimidating, but it’s completely safe. The needles create small punctures on the top layer of the skin, which cause the body to create new collagen and elastin. You’re basically tricking your skin into thinking that you’ve been injured, causing it to send more collagen to the affected parts.

How Does the Microneedling Procedure Work?

First, your skin will be cleansed, and a topical numbing cream will be applied to the area to be treated. It’ll take about 10 to 20 minutes for the numbing cream to kick in. Then your dermatologist will apply a serum to promote skin repair and healing.

Now, it’s time for the needles. A microneedling pen will go up and down your face (or the area you are having the procedure done) to “needle in” the serum. When the procedure is finished, another layer of serum is applied. And that’s it!

Microneedling Produces Real Results

Collagen is an essential protein that keeps our skin looking youthful and firm. But, as we age, we start to lose collagen, which leads to wrinkles and other signs of aging. But you can have smooth, rejuvenated skin once again with a quick trip to Winston Salem Dermatology.

Microneedling, Treatment, Before and After.

Targeted Areas for Microneedling

Here are some problem areas that Microneedling can help with:

  • Acne Scars
  • Age Spots (also called “sun spots”)
  • Fine Lines and Wrinkles
  • Large Pores
  • Other Types of Scars
  • Reduced Skin Elasticity
  • Uneven Skin Tone

The face isn’t the only place where microneedling can be helpful. It’s also used to treat stretch marks and hair loss due to alopecia. The same process that helps reproduce collagen can be used to regenerate hair follicles. So, while the face is the area of skin that is most treated, the procedure can be done anywhere that needs a collagen boost.

After the microneedling procedure, your skin will be red and sensitive. If you go outside, you’ll want to make sure you put on a chemical-free sunscreen. And try to avoid using makeup for the first day of your treatment. microneedling results are not instant, because it involves the growth of new skin. So, be patient! It can take several months before you see the full results from the procedure.
